Sophie "The Dog" Sharp

Sophie is 13 years old and has been training since she was almost 3. She trains out of Kurt Pellegrino’s BJJ in Belmar, NJ. She began her Jiu Jitsu journey when her older sister wanted to try out for the wrestling team and her parents thought BJJ might be a great place to start.

Before she found Jiu Jitsu, Sophie was already a Black Belt in Taekwondo and had won a World Championship in weapons forms. In fact, she was a 5x national champion! But she fell in love when she stepped on the Jiu Jitsu mats. She says she couldn’t train enough.

Sophie currently homeschools so she can train while remaining an honor roll student.

Sophie says, “Jiu Jitsu is a must for females. You become confident about situations while learning to defend yourself. I hope that both women and young girls can look to me as a role model for the sport of Jiu Jitsu.”

Sophie’s future goal is to run her own school where female students would be the primary focus.
